Palliative Care at Dartmouth

Ira Byock, MD is director of the Palliative Care program at Dartmouth Medical Center. Dr. Byock is scheduled to speak at our Annual Client Meeting in May, 2007. Palliative care is an interdisciplinary specialty that focuses on improving comfort and quality of life for patients and families experiencing a life-threatening illness. These illnesses include cancer; heart, lung and kidney disease; Alzheimer's Disease and other forms of dementia; and neurological diseases. Palliative care addresses not only physical needs, but also the spiritual, emotional, and social aspects of life for patients and their families.
