Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs) – An Overlooked Planning Opportunity - For Advisors
Employee Stock Ownership Plans (ESOPs) – An Overlooked Planning Opportunity
June 13, 2007 – Teleseminar: Begins with light lunch at 12:45, program 1:00-2:00 pm

If you advise business owner clients or wish to enter this marketplace, this is one session you will not want to miss. ESOPs are a highly under-utilized planning tool that, while complex, offer tremendous benefits for owners of closely held businesses. Unfortunately, perhaps because of their complexity, many advisors overlook ESOPs when working with closely held business owners. This teleconference will introduce you to ESOPs, including their advantages and disadvantages; explain when and how an ESOP may be a viable option for a closely held business owner looking to pass ownership of the business while increasing liquidity; and help you identify potential ESOP candidates.

Protection Planning for Couples
Lebanon
This program will cover post-mortem transfers from one spouse to another that can provide asset protection (including protecting against nursing home costs) for the survivor and for estate tax minimization through the use of a power of appointment. This technique can be used when one spouse has significantly more assets than the other, when one spouse owns a relatively large IRA or other qualified plan asset.

Combining FLPs with GRATs, Defective Trusts, IRA, Life Insurance and More
July 18, 2007 – Teleseminar: Begins with light lunch at 12:45, program 1:00-2:00 pm

Particularly for high net worth clients, the proverbial “rubber hits the road” with the integration of various planning strategies, not the implementation of strategies in isolation. Unfortunately, many clients have plans with strategies implemented in isolation. In this teleconference we will explore some strategy combinations that will significantly increase the overall effectiveness of the individual planning strategies, including how to explain strategy combinations in a manner that encourages clients to move forward.

The Truth About Estate Planning

Taking Good Care of Tomorrow includes designing and maintaining your estate plan.

Our monthly workshops/seminars provide an informal opportunity to discuss many aspects of estate planning. Among the topics discussed are the following:

  • Create a plan that meets expectations
  • Plan for disability
  • Title property properly
  • Avoid/Minimize estate taxes
  • Maximize retirement plan savings
  • Administration during disability
  • Administration after death
  • Protect assets from creditors
  • Avoid common costly mistakes
  • Plan for favorite charities
  • What’s best for beneficiaries
All workshops last approximately 2 1/2 hours. Please contact the office if you would like to attend.

Annual Client Meeting

For Lifeplan™ clients, their families, friends and advisors, the Annual Client Meetings provide a chance to review what’s going on in the office, discuss the year’s calendar of events and to learn more about a topic of general interest.

Our speaker for the 2007 Annual Client meeting will be Ira Byock, MD of Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC). Dr. Byock is the director of the Palliative Care program at Dartmouth Medical Center. Palliative care is an interdisciplinary specialty that focuses on improving comfort and quality of life for patients and families experiencing a life-threatening illness. Dr. Byock has written several books including Dying Well and The Four Things That Matter Most.

"Helper" Training

This program reviews what “helpers” (agents, trustees and executors) are required to do in their roles as fiduciaries and what they may have to do. We review the various duties of a fiduciary: from arranging for an appropriate living environment and making health care decisions to making investment decisions, distributions and accounting. Anyone who has been asked to serve as a fiduciary should attend this workshop.

Client Update Programs

The Client Update Programs are held annually for Lifeplan™ clients. Clients attend a program once every 2-3 years. The programs are designed to review the basics of planning and provide an opportunity to incorporate changes clients wish to make in their plans as well as changes necessitated either by changes in the law or changes in the approach we take to planning and administration. Each year trusts and wills are amended or restated and ancillary documents such as powers of attorney for health and/or property are reviewed and updated.

Lifeplan™ clients who last attended a program prior to 2005 are due to attend this year.

Advisor Roundtable Programs

We host a series of luncheon programs for allied professionals. The topics for discussion are varied and the exchange of ideas is helpful for all. The meetings last for approximately 90 minutes and include a light lunch.

Classicopia Concert

For Lifeplan™ clients, their families, friends and advisors, this year’s concert “Voila, Viola” features David Auerbach, viola and Daniel Weiser, piano playing music of Schubert, Schumann, and Brahms.
